Plus if anyone asks, you can say you're just playing an educational game =P I knew nothing about Taiwanese folk religion before, and I appreciated having the in-game glossary so I could learn some interesting new facts. I'm not a big fan of the style where the main character sprites have a single facial expression and all of the emotions are just shown in the side images, but the art direction is dynamic and expressive enough that it still worked for me.Įven if you're not into furry art or bara, I'd recommend Nekojishi to any VN fan interested in the setting. The art is great and the animated chibi cut-ins are just adorable. EDIT: The translation has since been updated and corrected, but I haven't checked out the new version yet. The translation isn't bad (certainly much more readable than the translation of the store page), but there's lots of small errors (mostly forgotten capitals and misplaced punctuation) which can get kind of distracting.
There is an R18 version with a few explicit scenes, which is a nice bonus, but I'd recommend reading the all-ages version as well, since those alternative scenes touch more on the emotional and romantic side of the relationships. It took me about seven hours to fully complete, but it'll take a bit longer if you read slowly and/or don't use a walkthrough. Probably disappointing if you were expecting a more traditional route structure with happy endings, but I thought it worked well. The story starts off as gay cat harem antics, but the true end goes off in an unexpected direction. (They accept PayPal NT$ 299 ≈ $10 US.) EDIT: There is now paid DLC on Steam. Unfortunately there's no paid DLC on Steam, but you can donate on their website. So many crap lazy VNs being sold for money and one this creative and well-designed is free.
